Impulse Devices

Impulse Devices such as a photocell provide the most precise method to detect an object passing a point (such as a finish line)

The photocell transmitter emits a narrow modulated beam of infra-red light across the track. The photocell receiver intercepts the infra-red beam.
Each time the infra-red beam is interrupted by an athlete or vehicle the receiver sends an impulse either wirelessly or by hardwire to the timer.
